About

I’m Manu Rathi — Director (Research) at Windmill Capital (Smallcase Technologies) in Bengaluru, where I work at the intersection of quantitative finance and applied AI.

I graduated from IIT Bombay (B.Tech, Civil Engineering, completed in 3.5 years) in 2017, and have spent my career since then building systems that sit between markets and models: factor research and portfolio optimization on one side, and — more recently — LLM-driven analyst tooling on the other.

Most recently I’ve led FinLens AI, a production platform that turns earnings calls, broker reports, and news into structured, cross-referenced investment research — built on retrieval over vector search, an MCP tool layer, and an LLM-as-judge evaluation loop. Before that: RAG systems for financial Q&A, a random-forest subscription predictor, and — going back to my first job at Quant One Technologies — risk optimization systems built from scratch (CDaR, Kelly, Fleishman’s four-moment simulation).

This site is where I write about that work and the ideas behind it — quant methods, simulation, risk, and, increasingly, how LLMs get built into real financial systems.
